Easy Wholewheat Pizzas

I was watching a TV  commercial about pizza yesterday and suddenly I had cravings for eating pizza but we did not want to order....so I dug out my good old baking book and found this recipe of a plain pizza dough....I had taken out one cup of  the white flour and substitute it with  whole wheat flour...and made it much more healthier with lots of fibre....Everyone loved it and the taste did not change a lot and in fact it was as delicious as the plain ones....We put our favourite toppings and baked them on a hot stoneware....
P/S : If you have kids , get them  to help you to roll out the dough.. it is fun for them to
learn a little about making pizzas....

Pizza Dough

Ingredients:

1 package active dry or fresh yeast
1 teaspoon honey
1 cup warm water , 105 to 115 degrees
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour

1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus additional for brushing
1 can pizza sauce

Toppings of your choice - sliced ham , pineapple chunks , sliced brown mushrooms with onions , sliced olives, sliced chorizo sausages , shredded mozzarella cheese

Method:

In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and honey in 1/4-cup warm water. In a mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine the flour and the salt.Add the oil, the yeast mixture, and the remaining 3/4 cup of water and mix on low speed until the dough comes cleanly away from the sides of the bowl and clusters around the dough hook, about 5 minutes.   If you have a bread machine, add the warm water , salt , flour ,dried yeast and sugar to knead according to the pizza dough cycle. After, put the dough in a well oiled large bowl to rise for about 1 hour.

Turn the dough out onto a clean work surface and knead by hand 2 or 3 minutes longer. The dough should be smooth and firm. When ready, the dough will stretch as it is lightly pulled.Divide the dough into 4 balls, about 6 ounces each. Work each ball by pulling down the sides and tucking under the bottom of the ball. Repeat 4 or 5 times. Then on a smooth, unfloured surface, roll the ball under the palm of your hand until the top of the dough is smooth and firm, about 1 minute.

Cover the dough with a damp towel and let rest 15 to 20 minutes. At this point, the balls can be wrapped in plastic and refrigerated for up to 2 days.Use a rolling pin to roll out the pizza dough to a 8 inch circle with a outer border a little thicker than the inner circle.

Spread some tomato sauce on top of the pizza dough and sprinkle some cheese, ham and pineapple chunks for a hawaiian pizza and spread some slices of ham and brown mushrooms and onions , sliced olives and cheese for a mushrooms and ham pizza as shown as in the photos below.

Mix and match your toppings and have fun making your very own signature pizza......

Place a pizza stone on the middle rack of the oven and preheat the oven to 425F. Slowly slide the pizza onto the pizza stone to bake till the pizza crust is nicely brown for about 12-15 minutes.

Be careful as the oven is very hot when you put the pizza in and out of the oven.Take the pizza out with a wooden spatula  and cut it with a pizza cutter or knife.Serve immediately.
